The themes of her work are not chosen arbitrarily. Steckholzer chooses places and sites where art is "transported", like museums, studios, art fairs and exhibition halls. Steckholzers art is on one hand thoughtful institutional criticism and on the other hand it can be understood as snapshot of subjective cognition possibilities. Her unsatisfaction of the daily ordinary produces a film before she paints. The film, working as a primary filter of recognition, keeps the substrate of the place. Subsequently the usage of brush and paint authorizes the transient, the essence of perception. The result is an astonishing paradox: the longer the moment is considered, the longer the after image is conceived.
